I'm traveling home from Northern Virginia today (my hometown) and wanted to send a quick hello and share something I've been thinking about.

I hope this leaves feeling inspired, focused and ready to greet the week ahead.

 

People have tried "doing all the right things."

Investing in the "right" funds.

Working in the "right" corporate jobs.

It's not enough.

It doesn't work.

 

Integrative living is where it's at now.

The marriage of conscious life choices and the following of your inner knowing.

And this isn't a logical thing.

It's an energy thing.

 

Now is the time to be integrative.

People are ready for it.

They want to learn…

How to integrate healthy eating into an uber busy life…

How to make the most integrative medical choice in times of crisis…

How to integrate personal values into a career and important life choices…

The list goes on.

And wellness pros excel at this.

We took the trainings before they were cool.

We read the books and sifted through the muck to find the gems.

 

But there's one spot, we as practitioners, can not forget to be integrative.

And that is in your business planning, marketing and branding.

It's time to start seeing your healthy living skill as also a best practice skill, not just something for your clients and for your personal life.

This means to give a little time, every single day, to using your integrative living skills…

- things like meditating, clearing energy patterns that no longer serve you, exercising, planning for healthy meals to stay focused, etc… -

…essentially doing what you must to call your best self forward, stay on message and be ready to lead.

People need you to lead them to the solutions you offer.

They need your integrative work.

 

So this week, as you move through your days, remember to BE integrative in your marketing, your branding and business choices.

There is tremendous personal power in this energy thing.

And your business needs it to succeed.

Ever found yourself doing one of these things?

Spending 6 hours trying to create an email newlsetter template.

Spending hours trying to set up your social networking applications.

Spending hours trying to learn Quicken or some other bookkeeping software.

Unless you have oodles of time to spare, and really enjoy this, this is not the best use of your time.

I see too many people use technology and organization fears/woes as an excuse for not getting "out there." It's too big of a pattern to deny that this really another form of resistance to letting your gifts shine in your private practice.

So now that you're aware of this, if you would like to change your experience of technology, and it's application to your wellness business, the first thing you must do is to change your story.

Your story may now be something like this: "Technology is overwhelming. It takes me 6 hours to create an newsletter template or to set up my Facebook profile. Ugh!"

(Believe me when I say - I feel your pain and I've SO been there.)

It's okay. But the greater truth is, the solution to this challenge doesn't reside in this pattern of thought.

Your new story could be (and where a possible solution could bubble up from): "Even though all of this technology feels overwhelming at the moment, I'm getting better and better at it. I can't wait until I have it down!"

Without this change of thinking, it's going to be difficult to create a different result.

Once you find a new "technology mantra" that changes how you feel about technology, you can move on to the next step.

Here are 3 ways you can use technology to grow your business without getting lost in hours of "how-to hell".

1) Hire a local college IT student (or computer savvy neice or nephew) for $10-$15 per hour for private lessons

Make a list of what you want to learn. Facebook/Linkedin/Navigating the internet tips and tricks/using outlook/setting up email signatures, etc…

Schedule weekly time with this person, every week, until you feel confident to do it on your own. (Create your own manual to refer too!)

2) Take a local community college course on the technology you want to learn

There are plenty of classes that taught by patient instructors if you know where to look.

Alternatively, there are online courses too.

3) Hire a virtual assistant (a "VA")

You don't have to do it all yourself. You could outsource and make it part of your business model.

a) either hire a VA to set you up with what you want to do - email newsletters, blog, wordpress websites, etc… and you take it from there

b) or set you up and handle ALL of the production of what you want to do - you just give that person the content and they take care of the rest

So really consider that trying to figure it all out on your own may not be the best option.

It's a waste of your valuable time and in the end, costs more in opportunity lost than hiring help you may need.

Consider if you're not willing to do this, you may be hiding behind technology instead of using technology to make a difference.

How do you know if your wellness target market is one that will allow you to make a good living while making a difference?

Your market or audience must meet the following four criteria:

1.  They are aware they have a health and wellness challenge that is affecting their life big time.

No convincing needed. They are aware that they have a problem. If you find yourself convincing, you are talking to the wrong people.

2. They are willing to pay to solve this challenge.

If they can't afford your services, products or classes or they are unwilling to part with cash in exchange for the solutions you offer, they are not a viable target market.

3. They are easy to reach in groups.

This means they get together on their own accord - online or locally - and gives you a place to test out your message and offerings. For example, business owners get together in groups to discuss their business goals, best practices and more. Nothing is more brutal in private practice then trying to get people to come to you when you don't have an audience to begin with. (I've been there!)

4. You enjoy serving this group of people.

Not everyone will enjoy serving this group of people and they don't have too. But you do.

All four of these criteria must be present in order for you to make a living doing what you love. If even one is missing, you are left with an expensive hobby or running a charity.

Please take a moment to make sure your target audience meets this criteria. It will put an end to burn out, struggle and financial loss in your wellness business, and finally allow you to truly make the difference you are here to do.
