Website Tip: Delete ENTER SITE page

You know those websites that don't directly go to the content of the site?

The kind that have an introductory page usually with a logo, image, music or some other media piece designed to impress you in some way. It's the kind of page that you look around and say to yourself "where the heck is that 'skip intro' or 'enter site' button?"

The worst offenders are the kind that say "please wait… loading image". It's annoying enough to have to bypass an introductory page before I get to what I want. Waiting to load some mystery media piece is enough to make people want to click off your site all together.

There is an exception, and even these are a bit annoying too.

Here's the new rule:

Unless you're giving me something super valuable and you're certain that your website visitor will LOVE your offer - like a free CD, audio class or product (called a "squeeze page" in marketing lingo) - delete the homepage that is designed to introduce your website.

To your success,

Karin
