What it Means to Play Big

In the life transformation business, you hear marketers and practitioners talk about taking BIG steps in business building, being and thinking BIGGER, living BIG and avoiding the playing small in life.

That’s a lot of Big-ness!

All this playing big talk can be wildly inspiring or, can make you shake in your boots in self-doubting thoughts such as “I’m not sure I can do that!”

Here are a few thoughts about what it means to play big that not only inspire me, but keep my feet planted firmly on the ground.

  1. You get to define what BIG means to you

What would playing BIG mean to you? Is it having a recognized community presence? Is it having a part-time practice that feeds your family’s vacation and college funds? Or is being the next guru in the spotlight on Oprah? Maybe it’s presenting your gifts with an engaging newsletter so that many more people can learn about the wisdom you have to share with others. Maybe it’s calling the editor of your local paper to have your next workshop featured? Not everyone wants, needs or desires to be famous, and not everyone wants to work with clients one-on-one forever or run their business like their colleagues. Your “BIG” can be anything.

Remembering that you get to define what it means to be BIGGER in your business helps you bypass the overwhelm, the comparison with others and that deflated feeling that you’ll never be enough to achieve “that thing.” You are enough. Your personalized vision of BIG is perfect whatever it may be.

  1. Being BIG isn’t about a bigger ego

The greater lesson of being, thinking and acting bigger in your business isn’t really about the money, recognition, clients or whatever. The real magic is what your BIG-NESS will require you to become in order to achieve it. What will you need to let go of in order to live your BIG vision for your business? Fears, poverity consciousness, fear of being seen, etc… Who will you need to BECOME in order to step into what BIG means to you?  This is about the personal development and the releasing of limiting beliefs. It’s the juicy, behind the scenes, inner work of your business essential to playing BIG.

Hope this was helpful!
