Here are five simple ways to upgrade your newsletter sign up section on your website.
1. Have an opt-in form on each page of you website. (Include points 1 – 3)
Tell your website visitor in 3-quick bullet points or one brief sentence the benefits of being subscribed to your newsletter in results-oriented language.
2. Pictures are worth a thousand words.
Include a graphic image to represent your email newsletter. This can look like a tip-sheet, a magazine (like mine) or a book/booklet cover. Ask your website designer to create one to match your site. This makes your intangible ideas and insights look more concrete.
3. Reassure your subscribers.
Include a privacy statement to reassure your subscribers that you will never rent, trade or sell their contact information. Also let them know that they can easily unsubscribe to your newsletter at any time.
4. Give your newsletter the attention it deserves.
Devote an entire page on your website to inviting new subscribers to join your email list. On this page tell your reader
- who you are as the author of this ezine
- who your ezine is for
- what they’ll get and what’s so great about that
- give them a few samples of your best issues
- share a description of any sign-up gifts
- and include testimonials of your readers sharing how much they like it.
Call this page “free articles", “free tips” or “free resources” in your navigation menu.
5. Share your newsletter feedback
When a newsletter reader shares a positive feedback with, ask them if you can quote them on your newsletter sign up page. For example, a short and sweet one-sentence testimonial from Jane S., Physician in San Diego, CA is better than no testimonials. This again reassures your new subscribers that real people read your tips and articles and enjoy them. Don’t worry about having enough to start, start with one and add more as you go along.
Here's to your continued professional expansion,
