What I Listen to Focus, Write and Brand My Clients
When I'm writing for a client I often listen to music.
1) If I just want background music I listen to Mozart Effect CDs - particularly the "Unlock the Creative Mind" mix. University studies have shown that students who listened to particular Mozart compositions where able to heighten their ability to remain alert and increase their capacity to absorb information. Sounds good to me!
I've always enjoyed classical music for studying and writing as I find that I'm easily distracted by other music when trying to focus. And being a music lover, I'm always on the look out for compositions that increase focus, clarity and performance. There are a variety Mozart mixes for different outcomes such as - relaxation, sleep, focus & clarity, creativity, healing the body and more.

2) Another tool I find really helpful is Centerpoint Research Institute's Quietude CD: A beautiful and very relaxing soundtrack that features the Holosync technology at the alpha level, the brain wave pattern of super learning. It's really amazing. I do immediately feel more focused when I listen to this 30-minute composition designed for use when working or studying. (Quietude comes the introductory Holosync package).
3) And lastly, what I often do BEFORE I start writing for a client and when I'm still mulling over my approach for a client's brand and marketing message is this: I ask them to choose a rockstar that they most resonate with. Which usually tells me a lot about how they would like to present themselves. Then I ask them to choose a song that in an ideal world, either by this same rockstar or not, would represent their business. I then go print out the lyrics and find the song online to listen too. This deepens my understanding for the mood, emotion and presentation of their overall brand message. And it's a lot of fun to get into the spirit of my client's brand (it's often so different to the music I listen to).
In my own business, I tend to choose a different song each year that I feel represents the new growth I want to achieve. It's not something I play on my website, it's just for my own personal use to feel inspired and connected to my big picture.
What's your song? Whatever it is, don't judge it. People are often surprised at what comes up for them. Let your knowing guide this choice, not your thinking. And play it often. If you feel like sharing, post it in the comments.
Oh what the heck — want to hear my song for the year ahead? Click play.
Hope this was helpful!
